Mutua serves as the International President of The Navigators overseeing the Worldwide Partnership of more than 5,300 staff serving in 115 countries.
Mutua was born in Kenya and committed his life to Christ at the age of 10 through the influence of his Christian parents. While in high school, he made his first Navigator contact and started being discipled. After acquiring his undergraduate degree to teach French, Mutua lived in France for two years where he obtained his master’s degree. He returned to Kenya and taught French for two years before joining Navigator staff in 1981.
Mutua’s first Navigator assignment was as a campus leader in Nairobi. He was appointed the National Director for Kenya in 1986. Mutua, his wife Stephanie and their family moved to Côte d’Ivoire in 1995 to serve as missionaries leading the national work and coaching leaders in other French-speaking countries. In 1998, Mutua was appointed as the Africa Regional Director, based in Nairobi, Kenya. In September 2011, Mutua joined Mike Treneer’s International Executive Team. In 2015 he was selected as International President of The Navigators and began his new role April 19, 2015.
Mutua and Stephanie moved to Colorado Springs in April 2012. They have 4 adult children: their son Mahiaini and daughters Njoki and Gathoni live in Kenya. Their son Kanaiya and his wife Tiffany live in British Columbia, Canada.
